PNG economist to give talk on land

AN Economist from Papua New Guinea (PNG) give a talk on property rights and development in the region, today.

Dr Charles Yala will deliver a presentation on: Property Rights and Development: What Lessons for Solomon Islands.

The talk is being organised by the Economic Association of Solomon Islands (EASI) which will be held the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) Conference room this afternoon starting at 4.30pm.

Dr Yala is a noted authority on land issues in Melanesia. 

He is currently a research associate at the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy.

His focus of research has been on "the economics of land, customary land tenure reform and the political economy of undertaking sensitive reforms within Melanesia". 

He was previously a research associate at the Australian National University, and has worked in land related projects with various donor agencies and the government of Papua New Guinea.

The talk will coincide with the election of a new EASI executive.

Dr Yala, who arrived last week, has been busy engaging in training and workshop hosted by the Lands Ministry in Honiara.
