EAGON Group of Company based in Korea has donated children’s item to the Solomon Islands Red Cross (SIRD) to help handicapped children and those affected by recent natural disasters.

Managing Director In-Sup Shin, who is based on Honiara, handed over the items on Tuesday.

Mr Shin said the chairman and founder of the Eagon group of company Young-Ju Park based in Korea initiated the idea.

"The items were collected by all the staff and management of Eagon Group of Companies and the church community in Korea," he said.

It took six months for the items to be collected and then shipped to Honiara.

The container arrived last week and was cleared this week before the handing over Tuesday.

Mr Shin said the beneficiaries of these goods will include handicapped children and those who were affected by earthquakes, cyclones and tsunami.

Apart from Red Cross distributing the items to Special Development Centre in Honiara, Eagon will also donate some of the items to village children where the company is operating from like Arara in Western Province.

Red Cross Secretary General Nancy Jolo said the donation marks a new partnership between the two organisations.

She said Red Cross is pleased to see a company supporting the children and recognising their needs.

Ms Jolo said the items will indeed be put to their rightful purpose for the benefit of the children who are in need.

Mr Shin said this is the first time for the company to support such a non-government organisation and they will continue to support the work of the Red Cross for the good of the people.
