The fish supplied by NFD has enabled Soltai workers to kick off production after operations were suspended for four months due to financial constrains.
General Manager Thomas Dorku confirmed that workers have returned and productions have resumed following the supply of tuna into the Soltai cold storage room.
“Yes, we have decided to start with 25 metric tonnes of tuna today (yesterday) to ensure all equipment and manning are responding well after the long shutdown.
“So far, things are going well and we will increase gradually,” he said.
Work in Noro was able to get off the ground this week after funds were secured and injected by Tri-Marine and National Provident Fund (NPF).
Under a new agreement NPF will provide a $50 million as loan while Tri-Marine will provide the other half to give a $100 million capital injection to refloat the company.
The new deal including Tri-Marine and NPF will be signed next month.
