Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Loyley Ngira announced this during a press conference yesterday.
This means it now cost 50 cents to send a text.
Mr Ngira said the reduced cost applies to both local and international text.
bemobile charges $0.89 cents for a text message for those using bemobile sims and $0.99 cents when sending a text to a Telekom subscriber.
For voice call, Mr Ngira said Our Telekom is still maintaining $1.50 per minute.
bemobile is charging around $1.10 and $1.20 per minute for calls made to bemobile and Telekom respectively.
It’s bemobile’s cheap voice calls that attracted a lot of customers when it launched its service on Tuesday.
Mr Ngira said they will work on how best to offer best deals and prizes for their customers in the coming weeks and months.
Currently Our Telekom has 90, 000 mobile phone customers and Mr Ngira said the number is expected to grow as their rural roll out project expands.
