Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Loyley Ngira revealed this while speaking to the local press on Wednesday
Currently, Telekom’s television coverage is limited to Honiara and provincial towns of Auki and Gizo.
This was made during the June-July World Cup finals and has now continued with local viewers accessing One News, BBC, and ABC.
Mr Ngira said expanding internet and television through their current network system are two of their long term plans.
“The TV coverage is an additional part of our plan to expand internet service throughout the country especially to the provincial centres and communities,” he said.
Mr Ngira said there is a solution to these two projects using their platform called IP TV.
“Our platform is capable of distributing and transmitting internet and television,” he said.
Mr Ngira said these are some of the extra developments that the company would like to do for this country.
However, he said the cost of the transmitters at the local sites is a problem.
“Because there are no cheap transmitters to ensure there is better access and coverage.
“But on a bigger scale we plan to expand these services to most of the provincial centres,” the CEO said.
He added at the moment Our Telekom is looking at one or two centres to get the television coverage.
The only set back would be on funding to get TV equipments such as dish and transmitters to expand the service.
“If we could get some help from somewhere then that would be much good because it’s not cheap to install TV equipments and transmitters,” he said.
