NEWLY crowned 2010 Miss Solomons Fuatino Malasa says she believes tourism can contribute in a big way to the economy.

Speaking to Solomon Star after winning the title on Saturday, the 19-year-old said tourism is every body’s responsibility because it involves everyone in society.

“Tourism includes preserving and maintaining of the culture, protection of the environment and the lifestyle and smiles of the people,” Ms Malasa said.

“This is why I love tourism because it embodies a whole lot of things,” she said.

Ms Malasa, who is currently doing her seventh form at state-owned King George Sixth High School, said she is planning to pursue a career in tourism.

“My dream is to get a career in the tourism sector,” she said.

And she wants to see the country develop its tourism sector in the coming years.

Ms Malasa, from Choiseul, will be representing the country in the 2010 Miss South Pacific pageant show in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, in November.
