Kemakeza’s trial moved to today

The trial into the case of Gela Member of Parliament (MP) and former Minister for Mines and Energy, Mark Kemakeza was adjourned from yesterday for today.

This is for the start of the defence case.

The trial was supposed to start yesterday but then was adjourned for today.

Kemakeza is facing two counts of official corruption and one count of abuse of office.

He allegedly misappropriated $764,000 of public funds allocated for fishing projects in his constituency.

Maelyn Bird of Crystal Lawyers is representing the Gela MP while Robert Barry of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) represents the Crown.

Principal Magistrate Shafi Khan presided over the case
