SIX babies were born on Christmas Day at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara.

That was according to the NRH’s nurse-in-charge of the Labour Ward.

“There were four boys and two girls,” the nurse said.

“They were all born on Christmas Day,” she added.

“The first baby was born in the early hours of the morning

“This was followed by five more during the course of the day.”

The nurse said the deliveries went smoothly, except for one case where there was a minor complication.

“But we were able to get that one done too so all babies and their mothers were safe and sound.

“We discharged them the following day.”

One of the mothers who spoke to the Solomon Star said she was happy to have her son born on the same day as Jesus.

“Now we will have double birthday celebrations on Christmas – one for my son and another for Jesus,” she added.

It’s understood other mothers may have also given births at rural hospitals and clinics on Christmas Day.
