Bus stop moved

KUKUM Traffic Police Unit has assigned the area opposite the Honiara Public Library as a new bus stop.

Police Traffic Sergeant Hugo Maelasi said the public and the Solomon Islands Bus Association need to be informed that the old bus stop near Fairwest Shipping office opposite Honiara City Council is now relocated to the area opposite the Honiara Public Library, below the Holy Cross Cathedral.

Mr Maelasi told PAOA FM that this is effective as of Monday.

“This is to minimise the traffic chaos the city is experiencing at the moment,” he said.

He said buses doing short trips from East Honiara will turn in from the Solomon Water area and disembark or pick their passengers opposite the Honiara Public Library.

He said these East Honiara buses could turn into the Old China Town Bridge and exit at Lawson Tama to travel back east.

“This new arrangement will allow vehicles coming from West Honiara and East Honiara to move freely.

“One of the areas that usually hold up traffic is the Honiara City Council roundabout and so the relocation of the bus stop from the Old SIEA area will minimise traffic congestions,” Mr Maelasi said.

He then called on the public and the Solomon Islands Bus Association to follow this new arrangement to help address the current traffic congestions.
