Man denies indecent assault charges

A MAN accused of sexually abusing his wife’s 11-year-old niece in their family home has denied the allegation, Tuesday at the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, pleaded not guilty to one count of indecent assault.

Following his plea, Chief Magistrate John Numapo adjourned the matter to February 28.

This is for the presentation of the pre-trial conference before a trial date can be fixed.

The alleged incident occurred on 11 October, 2015 at Henderson in East Guadalcanal.

Prosecution alleged the accused sexually abused the alleged victim who resided with the accused and his wife at Henderson at that time of the alleged offending.

The matter was reported to police in 2015 but since then the accused had been on the run from police.

Police arrested and charged him in the middle of last year.

Public Solicitor’s lawyer Lazarus Waroka is representing the accused while representing the Crown is Public Prosecutor Elizabeth Tito.
