A short form preliminary inquiry was conducted last week in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court on the murder case.

Public Prosecutor Ishmael Kekou handed the committal papers to the court to which the defence agreed there are sufficient evidence to have the matter committed to the High Court for trial.

Principal Magistrate Ricky Iomea having received the committal papers and heard confirmation from the defence counsels adjourned the matter to March 22.

That is when he will give his ruling.

Albert Kii, Raymond Haivati, Francis Balo, Eric Tulu, Mathew Kakalo and Calwick Bela are jointly charged for the murder of a man at Maraghova village in Weathercoast, South Guadalcanal.

They were accused of shooting the deceased with a gun when raiding Maraghova village in Weathercoast in South Guadalcanal at 7am on May 26, 2001.

Prosecution alleged the accused men with other men were armed with guns, spears, bush
knives and rocks when they entered the village and fired gun shots.

Prosecution alleged one of the accused who allegedly armed with a 303 rifle chased the
deceased and shot him on his throat.

It was alleged that when the deceased fell on the ground, all the accused attacked him.

The deceased died shortly after this incident.

Public Solicitor’s Office Clifton Ruele represents four of the accused while Michael Holara and Public Solicitor Douglas Hou represent Kii and Bela.
