Training soon to start

Training for the Solomon Islands men’s national football squad will start soon as the home match against Papua New Guinea (PNG) draws near.

Squad’s team captain, Henry Fa’arodo Junior told Star Sports training days for the selected squad are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 3pm to 5pm respectively.

However the venue is yet to be confirmed as the SIFF Academy is still undergoing rehabilitation while Lawson Tama will be closed as of Monday 27th March 2017.

The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has named 23 players who will make up the training squad for the upcoming 3rd stage of the World Cup Qualifier..

Selected players are urged to attend a meeting on Wednesday March 29th at the SIFF Academy Conference room from 4pm to 5pm.

The national men’s football team has to work extra  hard in their Home and Away matches against Papua New Guinea in order to advance to the next phase of the OFC Stage 3 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

This follows the win for Group C leader Tahiti extending the lead to six points following their 3-1 victory over Papua New Guinea last week in Port Moresby.

Solomon Islands are on the second spot with three points and two matches in hand while Tahiti only has one match in hand.

The national side’s hope of making it to the next phase is to win their Home and Away matches as well with higher goal average.

Solomon Islands will take on Papua New Guinea national squad on June 9 at the Lawson Tama stadium for their home game.

The away match date is yet to be confirmed.

It will be played in Lae.

SIFF last week named a 23 players team who will make up the training squad for the upcoming 3rd stage of the World Cup Qualifier.
