Attending
the dedication of the project site were, rep from Ministry of Commerce, Western Province government rep, business house
rep and the contracting company employees.
Speaking
at the dedication ceremony Project Coordinator, Mr. David Mamupio said the planning
for the industrial estate started way back in 2008 under the former CNURA
Government, however it delay due to financial constraints.
He said
the strategic objective of this project was to provide an avenue for economic
development, which would create employment opportunities and increase local
production in the semi-urban and rural areas.
The
project is an economic infrastructure that would stimulate and boost business
activities in western province, he added.
Meanwhile
Mr. Mamupio said the site work finally got underway following an allocation of
$6 million by the NCRA Government in this year’s 2012 budget.
The first
phase of the project involve clearing of the site, gravel infilling &
compacting, constructing of road access and storm water drainage systems.
He said tegarding
land tenure for the project is not an issue, because the project site is within
Noro township boundary which is a crown land.
Mamupio
highlighted said Noro Town was established to be the Industrial Centre in Western Province and one amongst the satellite
Industrial centre’s in the country.
Therefore
he added, the project fully conforms within Western Province Government Policy
to “make available land to facilitate for new industrial development and the
growth and expansion of existing investors”.
The project
is aligned under NCRA Government policy on Economic Growth Centre and the
creation of employment opportunities in rural areas as well as evenly spreading
out of development in the country he said.
Also
Provincial Member for Noro Town Ward Hon Billy Veo thanked the national Government
through partnership with Provincial Government for having confident in
allocating funds and making the site available for the NBIEP.
He highlighted said the project would not only benefit the Township and the local residents but it would create employment for all and prove catalyst for numerable short and long term socio-economic spin off benefits and other economic opportunities.
