Deputy Opposition leader, Mathew Wale was said to have
planned a meeting last night in Honiara as part of his proposed strategy to
dethrone the Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.
This was despite him denying the conspiracy move to lure the
Government ministers and backbenchers in the Lilo led government to join up with
the Opposition.
A Government backbencher told the Solomon Star he was approached by Mr Wale in Parliament yesterday to attend the meeting at Bodo Dettke’s residence.
“Wale told me to attend the meeting to discuss some issues relating to the Prime Minister.
“He (Wale) said other MPs will be present at the meeting, “ he said.
The backbencher said during the first meeting he attended with some members of the Opposition, the plan to collect ministers’ passports and to travel to Australia came about.
“Last night's meeting, I don’t know,” he said.
Well placed sources claimed Mr Wale is making moves to unseat the PM by trying to lure the members with the government to the opposition.
“From what we know Mr Wale wants to be the Prime Minister,” our source claimed.
“This is because he has got connections overseas where he can bring them in if he is PM.
“However, some of the MPs did not want him to be the PM because of some other reasons only known to them,” our source said.
PM Lilo was elected last November on the 16th, 2011, after his predecessor, Danny Philip resigned before a Parliamentary vote of no confidence.
One minister told the Solomon Star Lilo has not done any wrong since coming into power.
“We need to give him more time to see whether he can perform on the top job.
“If he can’t perform due to self interest then a move to remove him can be warranted,” the minister said.
Opposition press secretary, Deli Oso when contacted said if she was aware of such meeting, the media would know of it.
Meanwhile, four MPs are currently overseas. They include Dettke who is in Australia, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Shanel , Minister for Environment, Moffat Fugui and backbencher Danny Philip are attending an environmental workshop in Fiji.
Attempts to get Mr Wale for comments last night were unsuccessful.
