DIRECTOR of the Marine Exports Limited, Robert Satu has called on the government to pay up the money ordered by the High Court in its ruling November last year, for damages caused to the business.

The High Court last year ordered that the Solomon Islands Government and the Ministry of Fisheries pay Marine Exports Limited a total $10 million for damages.

This was in relation to the government’s banning of dolphin exports in 2005.

The court granted the order for loss from dolphin feeds in the sum of $2,073, order for loss of property (38 dolphins) in the sum of $7,527,733.75 and the order for exemplary damages in the sum of $500, 000.

Speaking to Solomon Star Mr Satu questioned why it is taking too long for the government to pay up what he and his company rightfully deserves.

“Since the ruling we understand that two court orders have been given to the government to pay up the money we rightfully deserve.

“When will this money be given to us as the court had already ordered the government to pay up.

“All we want is our money paid in so that it can cater to recover all the loss and damages caused by the ban of dolphins in 2005,” Mr Satu said.

Mr Satu said that he does not know if a time frame was put in the court order for the government to pay his company, adding that all he wants is for the government to pay up soon.

Attorney General Billy Titiulu had previously told The Solomon Star that the government will pay however still waiting on tax dues to come in so that they will pay.

Mr Titiulu also said that although it was not the making of the current government, tax payers will have to shoulder the cost of previous government’s actions.
