SIXTEEN Police officers are going to be paid under the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIP) Voluntary Early Retirement Scheme on tension related issues.

Ministry for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Clay Forau confirmed this when asked by MP for Aoke Langalanga, Mathew Wale on the progress of the scheme in Parliament yesterday.

Mr Forau said the list of names of these 16 officers was now before the Ministry of Public Service and Police and Correctional Service Commission.

He said once deliberate on and consequently approved, the Ministry of Finance, RSIPF and RAMSI Participating Police Force will proceed with payment under the funding deed.

Wale asked why it took so long to deal with the process of payment.

Minister Forau said the delay was basically related to submission.

"In 2011 about June, our submission reached Public Service but when the ministry follow up it can't locate it," he said.

"We re-submit it on December 2011 and the same thing happened.

"So on January 24 this year we resubmit and hope this one will locate it," Mr Forau said.

He said the explanation given was the officer responsible was on holiday but the ministry believes what re-submit should be deliberate on by the Ministry.

Meanwhile, there are three other schemes namely age retirement on police officers reaching 55 years but were outstanding due to lack of funds, age retirement of police officer reaching 55 yrs in 2010 and police officers retired under the capacity issue.

Minister Forau said some of the retirement cases have already being completed.
