A GROUP of skilled carvers from Honiara have begun constructing the four main posts for the Festival of Arts village entrance house.

Working against time to complete the village’s entrance shelter (similar to the one at the International terminal at Henderson) before the Pacific Festival of Arts expected to kick of in July this year, the carvers said they are up to the task and committed to finishing in time.

The carver’s foreman, Veron Horace told The Solomon Star yesterday that his boys have began carving the four main posts of the village’s entrance.

“The boys are currently working (carving) the two main posts of the entrance shelter to the village.

“The two front posts, which will be planted north and south entrance of the village, are carved into traditional warriors and designs from the Malaita province.

“The two back posts of the shelter will be carved with traditional designs from Makira and Renbel province,” Mr Horace said.

He said that the task will take up to a month, however adding that with the carving skills and commitment of the boys towards completing the task, they should be able to finish the job within weeks.

“We are committed to finish this within the timeframe given to us.

“This is our contribution towards the Festival of Arts to be held in the country in July,” Mr Horace said.
