PRIME Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo says Government needs to rethink its approach in dealing with land acquisition in the country.

Lilo told Parliament yesterday after it took the Government so long to acquire land for development in the country.

He gave an example of Ziata in Western province and Auluta in Malaita Province.

“Ziata takes 25 years of land recording but is not yet completed,” he said.

“Auluta in Malaita is going ahead with land acquisition.

“It’s an issue we need to find the right formula to deal with,” Prime Minister said.

He said the Lands and Titles Act has proved inefficient to determine the finanlisation of land acquisition.

“We need to rethink it by recognizing Customs Lands Title,” he said.

“It’s doesn’t come, we use panel and arbitration to find good finalities of it.”

Member of Parliament for East Choiseul, Manasseh Sogavare said Government should bring white paper and redirect these things.
