MALAITA Province and Renbel will miss out on the Provincial Government Strengthening Programme (PGSP) funds, Parliament was told yesterday.
Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Walter Folotalu confirmed this when asked by Leader of Opposition, Dr Derek Sikua during the committee of supply of the 2012 budget in Parliament.
Folotalu said both Malaita and Renbel will receive the fixed term grants except for the PGSP funds because they failed to meet donors’ accounting requirements.
However, Independent Leader and Member of Parliament for West Are’Are, John Maneiaru asked if they was better ways to solve this problem rather than punishing both provinces because the people would be the victims.
He said the leaders should be dealt will rather than stopping funding that rightly belonged to the people.
However, Folotalu eventhough it was a sad thing, he could not do anything because it’s a mutual agreement signed by Solomon Islands Government and donor partners.
