By-election for two seats ready to go

BY- ELECTION for North Malaita and East Are Are constituencies in Malaita Province is set for March, it was revealed.

A well-placed source in the Government said the two by-elections are set to roll after the passage of the budget.

Jimmy Lusibaea vacated the North Malaita's seat On October 17 2010 after the High Court overturned remisison given by Minister for Police and the Parole Board following his two years and nine months sentence for grievours bodily harm.

While Andrew Hanaria relinquished his East Are Are's seat last December after he lost the petition case filed against him by three former losing candidates of the August 2010 National General elections.

Solomon Star understands $2 million has been allocated in the 2012 Budget for the by-elections under Electoral Commission in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Electoral Office said work on the upcoming by-elections have already started.

Under the Electoral law, Hanaria can't re-contest the by-election for he lost it through petition.

However it is still unclear whether Lusibaea will re-contest the by-election.
