Collection of rubbish in some parts of the Honiara City is a major problem encountered by the Honiara City Council.

According to the 2011 Honiara Waste Characterization Audit (HWCA) report stated that distribution of collection points in Honiara is often irregular.

"It often depends on the location houses as well as access road to the area."

Official reports said this causes unclear designation of collection routes, as a result, there is often poor collection point of waste from some residential homes such as illegal and squatter settlements.

"At the moment there is no refuse collection in the informal settlements.

"The reason are no access, they do not contributes to council services delivery budget through permit fees and other licenses."

The report even stated that current road network does not support efficient waste collection as a result collection vehicles cannot access collection points in some area.

"In addition, because of the poor road access in some areas, collection points are far from houses.

"Lack of proper planning of roads contributes a lot to the problem of collection point distribution.

"The council has a formula for zoning of the city that to revised since it is obvious that collection zones are too large for the contractors.
