Education to go tough academic performances

THE Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) will this year be very tough on students' academic performances.

This was after more than 500 new students were sent under the Solomon Islands Government scholarship to various institutions in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.

MEHRA Permanent Secretary Charles Viva revealed this to the Solomon Star yesterday.

Mr Viva who will be heading to Fiji today to attend the opening of the University of the South Pacific’s (USP) new ICT building and attend a three day workshop on ICT and Culture said that he will be stressing this to students when he meets up with them this weekend.

“The Ministry will be tough on students academic performances with those failing to meet the standard requirements or criteria’s set by their various institutions be sent back home.

“This is because the government this year sent more than 500 new students at a great cost.

“Therefore their performances also will be monitored,” Mr Viva said.
