MARK Kemakeza has maintained his seat as Member of Parliament for Gela despite being convicted and detained in custody awaiting his sentence submission on February 28.

Speaker of Parliament, Sir Allen Kemakeza, his elder brother, said until Mark is sentenced more than six months before he can lose his Parliamentary seat.

“Currently he’s still the MP,” he said.

“We will have to wait for the sentence next week.

“He was found guilty but he is yet to be sentenced,” the Speaker said.

Mark has been on a lengthy trail for two counts of official corruption, two counts of conversion and one count of abuse of office.

This was in relation to $764,000 of public funds allocated for fishing projects in his constituency in 2007.

The first lot of government funding for fishing projects allocated for Central Islands Province in 2007 was $484,000.

The second lot of $280,000 was allocated for those who had not applied for projects under the first funding.

It was alleged that Mark used the funds for his own benefit.
