Kwara’ae MP relegated to and is tipped for chairmanship
MINISTER of Infrastructure Jackson Fiulaua has been stripped off his portfolio as Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo appointed a senior figure in Opposition bench, Seth Gukuna, as his replacement.
Mr Gukuna the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rennell/Bellona province was one of the three ministers who were sworn in yesterday at the Government House.
In a move to destabilize the Opposition and strengthen his Cabinet, Prime Minister Lilo has undertaken some major reshuffling.
Besides Mr Gukuna, former Police Minister Clay Forau has been sworn in as the new Foreign Affairs Minister with Public Service Minister Alfred Ghiro reshuffled to the fisheries ministry.
This means that the ministry of police and that of public service are currently vacant.
The Solomon Star understands more reshuffling and recruiting will be taking place in the next few days.
Sources close to the Prime Minister said he has already secured the support of one more Opposition MP to join his team in the coming days.
The source claimed that Prime Minister Lilo was likely to appoint Silas Tausinga, MP for West New Georgia-Vona Vona to take up the provincial government post to replace David Tome who is tipped to replace Mr Forau.
“The Public Service Ministry on the other hand is likely to be given to Bradley Tovosia,” our source said.
It is understood that the delay in swearing in the other ministers was because Mr Tome was in Gizo, Western province to officiate the opening of the Western provincial assembly.
Meanwhile, former infrastructure minister and Mr Fiulaua has reportedly been demoted to a chairmanship post.
