Finance Minister Hon Snider Rini said the Ministry of Education’s 2010 budget share will not affect the entire budget.

Mr Rini was responding to the Opposition Leader Hon Manasseh Sogovare in parliament last week, who claimed that the Education’s share was under budget.

The Finance Minister said any under budget figures appeared on the Education Budget for 2010 will recover by the country revenue and other extra funds.

“The figures on the education budget are also not final and the responsible Ministry, Ministry of Education may change it when needed,” Mr Rini said.

Mr Sogovare also questioned why there were so many increases in the 2010 budget compared to the 2009 budget.

Minister of Education Mathew Wale clarified that such an increase reflects on the government plans of expanding her education plans and policies and effectively implementing them.

Mr Wale said an example of why there is an increase budget for next year (2010) is the increase enrolment of the students in schools following the free fee Education policy

He said the Ministry of Education will also increase the grants to the Church Authorities because of an increasing numbers of provincial schools becoming church schools

He said another reason is to ensure the schools in remote areas are visited twice a year by inspectors.
