THE Ministry of Education and Human Resources will confirm the number of 2010 scholarship recipients next week.
A ministry insider told the Solomon Star yesterday the delay was due to unavailability of Form 7 results from University of South Pacific (USP) in Fiji.
“USP will provide all the Form 7 results tomorrow (today),” he said.
“We will finalise all the results and sort out funding for Papua New Guinea’s institutions before releasing them.”
The insider said the ministry is hoping to announce all the scholarship recipients by Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Last year the Government sponsored a total number of 884 students. That included students who studied in various universities in the region.
The USP alone led the tally with a total number of 637.
USP Laucala has the highest number of 530 and local USP Campus the second with a total of 78 students.
It cost the Government $27.2 million to sponsor all the students. This year, the Government has allocated $28.5 million for scholarships.
However, the Ministry said the outcome of scholarships will depend on the results from Form 7.
Meanwhile, the Ministry will publish the Form 3 and Form 5 results tomorrow. It said the delay was due to late arrival of exam results from 10 schools.
