OPPOSITION leader Dr Derek Sikua insisted Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo had instructed the omission of his name and that of his ministers and backbenchers from the list of land rental debtors published in the Island Sun this week.
Dr Sikua said the “corrupt act” by the Prime Minister can be proven by checking the uncensored list obtained by his office against the censored list that was published in the paper on Tuesday.
He said the censored list only contained the names of members of the Opposition and the Independent Group, where as the uncensored list obtained from the Ministry of Lands included the name of the Prime Minister and some of his cabinet ministers and backbenchers.
The Opposition leader said according to the uncensored list, the Prime Minister owes the government a total of $115, 108.55 and not $113,000.00 as previously stated, in land rentals for three properties with the following parcel numbers: 192-007-0159, 191-008-0084 and 141-001-000.
“To prove himself innocent of this corrupt act, can the Prime Minister truthfully inform the nation why his name and that of his cabinet ministers and backbenchers with land rentals owing to the Government were not published along with other land rental debtors including members of the Opposition and the Independent Group?
“Surely it was not a simple omission by the Ministry of Lands,” Dr Sikua said.
The Opposition Leader said he is under no obligation to reveal the identity of the persons who furnished his office with information about the prime minister’s action and the uncensored list of land rental debtors to the Prime Minister.
“I am rather obligated by the constitution to ensure good governance for the people of Solomon Islands by keeping a close check and balance over the actions of the Prime Minister and his government.
“I wish to inform the Prime Minister that I am fully prepared to grill him on this matter on the floor of Parliament,” he said.
