“I support the idea to have our own university but responsible authorities need to consider its location.
“Its good we must have our university to alleviate government spending to our students studying at various universities in the pacific.”
However he said it would be better for government to establish that university on a different Island.
Dr Roughan said “if Solomon Islands have its own university in late 70’s it would be the leading nation in the South Pacific region.”
He said the people of Guadalcanal are not supporting the centralising of developments that would increase urban migration.
Dr Roughan said government should learn from the social unrest migration to town is a major factor that causes increasing of squatter settlements in Honiara.
“This important areas government would consider avoiding repetition of the past experiences.”
He added, government must also rethink on how they would upgrade the SICHE to become an university because they it would hinder skill trained students.
“I call on government responsible authorities to look into alternatives to relocate other departments in SICHE.”
