Stephen Panga has renewed his call for GRML to meet the damages caused to the Metaphona River.
Former Guadalcanal Premier Stephen Panga has renewed his call for the Gold Ridge Mining Limited (GRML) to meet the damages caused to the Metaphona River.

The association is demanding $15million in damages.

He said Metaphona Downstream Association Registered Members community has meet over the issue but as yet no respond from Gold Ridge company.

Ministry of mines, energy and rural electrification has established a task force to consider the issue.

Asked why the compensation reaches $15 million, he responded it’s not base on any report but it base on how people saw the environmental damages.

In fact the association has engaged an environmental team to carry out their findings on the river but so far no reports have reached to the association.

He expressed if Gold Ridge fail to meet their demands they would take legal action against the company.

Meanwhile Mr Panga said it was disappointing because the former members of the association did not attend their meeting last week.

He is now making a 14 days notice to call on every former member to attend the meeting next week to discuss the environmental damages  caused to the river.

“If they fail to attend the meeting we will elect new executive for the association.”
