NEWLY elected President of the Metapona Downstream Association Stephen Paga assures his people that his committee will pursue the outstanding issues of environmental damages on the Metapona river with Gold Ridge Mining Ltd during his term.
He made the assurance after he was elected unopposed during the association’s annual general meeting held at Matanga village on Monday.
Mr Panga acknowledged the members for having confidence and trust given to him to lead the association for the next one year.
He said it is not always easy to talk with responsible authority to bring the outstanding issues but through their support his committee will vigorously pursue the issues of Metapona River with the mining company.
“Our committee will drive our issues and not to challenge the company,” he said.
He appeals to the government and company to work together with the association to address their issue in an amicable way.
The MDA new executives are Stephen Panga, president; Alfred Pago, vice president; Gabriel Lulumi, treasurer; and Sam Kema the secretary.
The ordinary members are Eric Talunago, Isach Gavi, Ray Hesao while the trustees are Selwyn Rodie, Sam Tagapule, John Ilei, Bobie Vekerania and James Gani.
The election was conducted by legal firm Rano and Son’s and witnessed by officers from the Ministry of Mines and Energy and MP for North Guadalcanal Martin Sopage and former premier Ezekiel Alebua.
About 180 members attended the AGM.
