That was according to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Youth and Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) Ethel Sigimanu.
Mrs Sigimanu said women and children in the country were abused by people they trust and respect.
She said two out of three women were reported experiencing severe forms of violence from their husbands or people they know and trust.
She said the media tell stories about incest dads reappear in court, juvenile pleads not guilty of murder of his wife, girls told to strips off and many more which are evident of violence done at home.
“These stories tell us that such unwanted act occurred in homes where women and children are supposed to be protected.”
Mrs Sigimanu added that physical, sexual and emotional violence were reported to be the highest form of violence in the Solomon Islands.
She said this calls for individuals to be responsible in addressing the matter.
“We have an immense responsibility to provide a safe and peaceful home to our families and Children.”
Meanwhile, the theme for this year’s 16 days activism campaign in Eliminating Violence against Women is “Peace in the home to peace in the world.”
