PNG envoy traffic probe still on

POLICE are continuing their investigations into a traffic accident involving Papua New Guinea’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Brian Yombon-Copio.

Deputy Police Commissioner Walter Kola revealed police are conducting interviews with witnesses into the incident, which resulted in Mr Yombon-Copio recalled to Port Moresby.

“Police will be focusing on the traffic accident in which after several interviews with witnesses and also investigations lead to point out that the PNG ambassador’s vehicle was hit by another vehicle,” Mr Kola said.

“Investigations will continue until such a time when all evidences needed is gathered,” he added.

He also clarified that other allegations of misconduct in office are for the PNG Department of Foreign Affairs and other responsible bodies to deal with.

“We will not going to look into the other matters as highlighted in the media regarding the PNG ambassador.

“We will remain focused on the traffic accident investigations,” Mr Kola said.
