Electoral Commission’s training team has ended
two days of training for Gela national by-election officials, last Friday.
This training was one of the initial stages in the preparatory work towards proper management and conduction of this by-election process.
Head of Electoral Training Department Madlyn Ero said that the training was very important when it comes to election since it aims at educating senior election administrators on how to deliver election services according to election good practices.
“All election legal guidelines, including election officials’ dos and don’ts, right, roles and responsibilities, planning and budgeting are thoroughly explained and detailed in each training session,” Ero said.
Attendees of the trainings are the election manager, Alphonsus Pero, returning officer, George Sasi and three assistant returning officers.
Danny Asa, head of Policy and Research also briefly explained the changes in the procedures and processes with the introduction of a new ballot boxes and used of the a new ink during the training.
Asa said that, Electoral Commission will continue to explore changes in the way election is delivered and such training is essential to know and learn any new changes to the election process.
Sasi, returning officer said that the training was very helpful and had enabled him to shoulder the responsibility that is entrusted on him as Returning Officer.
He also said that he was very happy and acknowledged Electoral Commission for having the confidence in him to do this job and hopes to deliver an election that Electoral Commission and the people of Gela want.
“Learning and working from past election experiences, I hope this by-election would be a peaceful, free and fair election for the all Gela constituents,” Sasi said.
“I will try my best to deliver the type of election that the people of Ngella would want and appreciate,” he added.
Sasi said that by-election officers will be stationed at Tulagi provincial centre for consultation regarding any by-election related matters everyone are welcome with any of their election queries.
He urged voters from Gela to work together with the by-election officials to achieve and to make an election difference in by-election result and success.
The returning officer and the assistants will be the electoral representatives in the province and Electoral Commission is calling on Gela voters to work together with them to achieve a successful election for all.
