SEVENTH Day Adventist youths throughout the country are flooding into the Capital for the 2010 Solomon Islands Mission of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Youth Congress.

The youth congress was launched yesterday followed by registrations.

Official programs will kick off today and will go on until 17 January.

Already youth groups from the Western, Choiseul, Makira, Renbel, Savo and Central Islands Province, Guadalcanal, Honiara, Malaita, Isabel and Temotu provinces have already registered for the Congress after the launching yesterday.

The mega event promises to be the biggest the Church and country has ever organised.

More than 500 youths registered yesterday and the number is expected to increase during the week and more youths are yet to arrive.

Speaking to Solomon Star, SIM Youth Director Pr Wilfred Liligheto said “now that the festive season is over, it is time now for the Lord’s business.”

“How great it is to start off this New Year 2010 with all our young people coming for the SIM Youth Congress,” Mr Liligheto

He said it is indeed encourging to see lots of young men and women from all over the Solomon Islands and even other parts of the world coming together and spend time celebrating and praising God.

“It is a time for reflection, revival and reporting.”

He said looking back at the previous Youth Congress organised in 2007, things have indeed changed and improved dramatically-one of which is the opening of the Maranatha Multipurpose Hall built especially for such occasions.

“It is time we work to improve on what has been learnt through various youth activities in the Church and hope that through the lessons learnt this week, youths will strengthen their spiritual lives and daily work with Christ,”Pr Liligeto said.

Associate Youth Director Raynick Jack said that such programs will be the opportunity for young people to meet old and new friends and to celebrate the diversity and the richness of the cultures that make up the Adventist family all througout the Solomon Islands.

“Young people the Church needs your vision, your enthusiasm, your energy, your vitality and your Christian witness to make this program a success,” he said.

Mr Jack said they are expecting up to a thousand plus youths to attend the program.

“Other youths from the provinces will be arriving during the week to be part of this historic program which is organised every three years,” he said.

The Official opening of the Youth Congress will take place today (2pm) at the SIM Headquarters at Burns Creek.
