THE Electoral commission is set to roll out the voters’ registration exercise this month as the government pledges to pump in more funds.
Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu said the government promised to release a further $3 million this week for preparatory work.
Mr Haununu said 10 registration officers and 10 revising officers from all provinces will commence initial training this week in Honiara.
“After the three days training, they will return to their respective provinces to train assistant registration officers again.”
The government had initially released $2 million last month, which get the commission on its feet with the registration exercise.
An allocation of $12 million was made for the registration exercise.
The commission late last year received more than 800 applications from people who want to carry out the registration exercise throughout the country.
Actual registration will kick off on the 25th this month and closes on 25 March.
