TO ENSURE the national general election is trouble free, police will soon execute their pre-election preparatory mission.

Police Commissioner Peter Marshall has announced the appointment of a RSIPF officer who will initially liaise on matters pertaining to the election.

“With the national general election coming mid this year, I’m going to appoint a senior RSIP officer who will be our principle person in terms of liaising with election officials and with provinces and he will be reporting directly to the assistant commissioner operations,” Mr Marshall said

He said it is a very important decision and it signifies the amount of work police are going to do in the lead up to the national election.

“This senior officer will be privy to all the discussion and meetings that go on with officials and he will be giving us advice as a police executive in terms of placement of our personnel as we head towards our election period.”

Mr Marshall said it is the first time that they have actually appointed someone so earlier in the year prior to the election.

“But I think it’s a wise decision and there will be a lot of interest in the election as we head towards June,” he said.
