THE Constituency Boundary Commission (CBC) has added two extra constituencies in its final report.
Marau in Guadalcanal and Renbel have been considered by the Commission during their meeting in Honiara last month.
This brings the total number of new recommended constituencies to 17 for Parliament to pass or reject in its upcoming sitting next month.
The Commission has agreed for 15 new constituencies in their initial report.
However, Chairman Dennis Lulei told Solomon Star from Buala, Isabel, yesterday that Guadalcanal and Renbel were considered due to their strong submissions.
He said the Commission met last month and agreed to give them the new constituencies.
The Marau chiefs and Renbel people can now breathe a sigh of relief after the initial findings did not go down well to them.
Renbel Premier, Timothy Johnston said the Commission overlooked some criteria which if taken into account should prove his province’s legitimate request for another constituency.
He said their inclusion would be legitimate if the Boundary Commission took into account geographical location, ethnicity and communications and transport difficulties.
Mr Lulei said Commission’s work is now completed and it’s up to the Statistic officials to hand the report to Ministry of Home Affairs.
However, he said it was very upsetting to hear that the report is still to be handed over to Minister Peter Tom.
“For me I am now concentrating on a different job in Buala.
“Otherwise people will say I am running away with the report,” he said.
The 17 new constituencies recommended by the Constituency Boundaries Commission are: Choiseul province 1, Western province 3, Isabel province 1, Central province 1, Guadalcanal province 3, Makira Ulawa province 1, Honiara 1, Temotu 1 and Malaita 4 and Renell & Bellona 1.
