MEMBERS of the Opposition and Independent groups in Parliament will launch their newly formed political party- OUR Party- in Honiara this Sunday at the Multi-purpose hall starting 1pm.
OUR is the acronym for three pillars the founders believe are fundamental to ensuring a prosperous Solomon Islands.
They are: Ownership, Unity and Responsibility.
“We are proud to announce to the people that a new political party committed to addressing the needs of Solomon Islanders will be launched in Honiara this Sunday,” interim president Manasseh Sogavare said.
“And we welcome every individual living in and around the capital to attend this important occasion.
“OUR Party believes in order to achieve a sustainable economy, Solomon Islanders must be empowered to be masters of their own destiny within a governance framework committed to ethical leadership and good governance.
“Solomon Islanders have long felt alienated from their government and we are committed to bring about change.
“OUR Party wants to install a sense of ownership of the government in every individual Solomon Islander and we will ensure that from the start,” Mr Sogavare said.
He said Our Party is committed to taking the necessary reform measures to address impediments to enhancing the nation’s economic growth potentials.
“It is the success of the economic policies designed to facilitate the achievement of the national economic objectives that will enable the government to support a workable rural development strategy,” Mr Sogavare said.
Membership application forms will be distributed at the launch. Membership is open for members of the public including students.
OUR Party will also be launched at all the provincial headquarters. Dates for the launches will be announced later.
