The Police media unit reported that the incident occurred during a night voyage onboard one of the shipping vessels traveling between Savo Island and Isabel.
Police investigation revealed the man was angry with his relatives who boarded the vessel without paying their sea-fares.
The police statement said the man then confronted his relatives and was arguing with them for some time, before throwing himself overboard into the sea while under the influence of liquor.
Attempts to rescue the man proved futile despite the boat making a turn around to conduct a search.
“The vessel immediately made a turn around and search for the man but could not find a trace of his whereabouts. Maritime were also alerted of the incident and a search was conducted but, little result was achieved,” the statement said yesterday.
Meanwhile police and maritime officers are calling on the public and particularly, locals around the Savo and Ngela islands, to look out for any sign of anyone or any human body washed ashore.
Police can be contacted on phone 23666 or 999.
