THE body of the second child swept away by flooding on Wednesday night at the New Zealand camp, east of Honiara, was found on Saturday morning.

Police said the body of the one year old boy was located just around the same area, the body of the other two year old was found Thursday last week.

Locals assisting police in the search found the body on Saturday morning at about 10am lying amongst the debris and alerted police.

The two children who were carried away from their parent’s arms by the flood were the victims of the latest devastating flood that hit parts of the Guadalcanal province on Wednesday.

Police say their forensic team attended the scene and carried out preliminary examination of the body before it was taken to the National Referral Hospital for a thorough medical assessment.

The body was then handed back to relatives for burial.

The police in a statement yesterday thanked all the locals who have assisted them in their search discovering the two bodies.

“The police would like to thank all those who have assisted one way or the other in the search,” the statement said.
