THE Development Services Exchange (DSE) is currently holding a one month salary survey for non-government organisation employees in Honiara.

DSE is the umbrella body for non-government organisations in the country.

General Secretary Collin Ruqebatu said the purpose of the salary survey was to make sure NGO employees are getting salaries that would make them want to stay on the job.

He said employees working for NGOs in Honiara are encouraged to participate in the survey.

“The importance of this survey is to compare with other NGO offices how much their staff are being paid,” he said.

Mr Ruqebatu said the survey is one way of enhancing their members in the NGO sector.

He said DSE is committed to doing this every two years and therefore appeals to their members to contact their office and participate in the survey.

“So far we have confirmation from nine of our members confirming their participation,” he said.

Mr Ruqebatu said they’ve secured the service of an Australian consultant who is here to provide advice on the one-month survey.

“This assignment will cost us approximately $110,000. Funding for this came from our members and donor partners.”

Mr Ruqebatu also urged NGO employees to attend   a meeting which will be held next Monday at the DSE conference room at 10am.

He said the meeting is an information session for NGO workers.

The Salary Survey started Monday this week and will end of March 5.

DSE is the national NGO umbrella body established in 1984 to facilitate and coordinate development services for NGOs and their partners.

It was one of the first national NGO focal points to be established within the Pacific region and for many years was a leading model for NGO coordination, networking and capacity building.
