CHIEF Justice Sir Albert Palmer has called for the establishment of a body similar to the Parliamentary Entitlements Commission that will determine salaries and other terms and conditions for judicial and constitutional post-holders.
Sir Albert made the call when opening the 2010 Legal Year in Honiara this week.
He says the Judiciary is the third arm of the Government.
It is therefore imperative, he says, that such a body is set up to avoid the Executive and any other bodies it may set up, from interfering with salaries and terms and conditions of judges.
Sir Albert says this is to ensure that their entitlements are reviewed regularly and on proportionate basis.
He says like all matters associated with the independence of the judiciary, this is not for the convenience of judges, but so that the community can know that their Judiciary is protected from any pressure applied through the terms of their office.
