A MAN accused over the attack of a 29-year-old taxi driver at Lungga area early this year has been remanded in custody yesterday.
Martin Melobo appeared in the Magistrates Court facing one count of robbery.
He was alleged to have attacked a taxi driver, along with two other suspects who are still at large, using a pocket knife.
The taxi driver took the three men from Point Cruz to Lungga.
When they arrived at their destination, one of the three men allegedly took out a knife and tried to stab the driver.
While the driver was struggling with one of the accused, another accused allegedly grabbed a walkman, an amp, a mobile and three hundred dollars from the taxi.
The driver was stabbed in his left hand while trying to defend himself.
In court yesterday during the remand application, Rodgers Tovosia who represented the accused told the court that his client said he was not involved in the act.
He said the accused said he had no plans with the other two suspects to rob the taxi driver.
Police Prosecutor Ronnie Pisei however asked the court to remand the suspect.
He said the investigations are still on and there might be interference with Police witnesses and investigations if the accused is out on bail.
The offence too, he said, is a very serious one.
Principle Magistrate Steve Wilson remanded Melobo for 14 days and adjourned the matter to February 15.
