A MAGISTRATE yesterday released owner of City Motel in Honiara Noel Fulaburi on bail.
This was after the accused’s lawyer Hubert Fugui from the Public Solicitor’s Office applied for bail.
Fulaburi was arrested three weeks ago after police raided his motel and found a large stockpile of stolen properties.
Police used three vehicles to move the properties, which include computers and a generator, to the Central Police Station.
Mr Fugui yesterday told the court there’s no evidence to link his client with the alleged offences.
He also said his client’s children are not attending school since their father was arrested because they rely on him for money.
Police opposed bail.
Prosecutor Ronnie Pisei told the court new evidence from two witnesses who followed a taxi that transported t stolen electronic equipments from Tasahe to the City Motel saw the equipments being unloaded there.
But Magistrate Steve Wilson said at this stage the evidence is only circumstantial and can’t remand the accused further.
The court also heard that a new charge of simple larceny will be pressed against the accused in relation to a generator also taken by police in the search.
Police have already charged Fulaburi with store break-in. This was in relation to the stolen properties found in his motel.
Mr Wilson released Fulaburi on bail with conditions, ordering him not to leave the mote from 6pm to 6am.
He is also required to report to Central Police Station twice a week.
The case returns to court on March 8.
