YWCA, Betivatu vocational school, Visale community High School and the National Museum representatives last Friday received money from a private Japanese donor Atsuo Nakaya under the NAKAYA scholarship fund .
The sum given out adds up to SBD 91,873.50 which was divided to the schools and organization to meet teaching materials and also improve facilities.
Betivatu vocational school received SDB30,000, Kindergarten of YWCA SBD30,000, National Museum of Solomon Islands SBD17,000 and Visale Community High School received SBD14,873.50.
Chairman of the Nakaya Scholarship Masao Yamagata said Mr Nakaya is a Rotarian member of Kaizuka Cosmos Rotary Club in Japan.
Mr Yamagata said he hoped the generous assistance will make a positive difference to all recipient schools and organisations.
“We hope it will also encourage schools in this country to strive on despite hardships knowing that some people are there ready to help,” he said.
Mr Yamagata also relay a message from Mr Nakaya during the handing over ceremony saying that the most important thing in the world is education.
“His rotary believes in education and agree to support students of this country and the founder also believe that happiness is how we are able to learn from the nature and living nature.”
The NAKAYA Scholarship fund was established in 2008 by Mr Atsuo Nakaya and Mr Kiichi Aoyagi.
Their fathers fought in the Second World War on Guadalcanal and in gratitude for the people of Solomon Islands they established the Scholarship Fund to support youth in this country.
