PEOPLE of Aola and Paripao wards in east Guadalcanal are planning to boycott the National General Election lat this year.

Henry Ghulu of Aola and Philip Garimane of Paripao said most people in the wards have expressed reluctance to vote in the coming election.

This is because the road serving thousands of people in East Guadalcanal has been neglected for far too long.

“For the past five years, the road has never been attended to and our members of parliaments need to go there and see for themselves how people struggle everyday to get to town,” Mr Ghulu said.

They said the state of the road is such that no vehicles can access.

“We the ordinary people have been suffering over the years.

“We have to carry good on our shoulders for some six hours before getting to Mbarande River where the road is better.”

Fisheries Minister Nollen Leni and Prime Minister Dr Derick Sikua are members of parliament for the wards.

The two men said that the state of the road had placed hardship in earning money to pay for school fees.

“Cocoa and copra sacks are normally shipped because no vehicles can access people living up that area,” they said.

They said that they have been neglected by their leaders.

“We do not ask our leaders for their money but when you are up there, facilitate things for us such as the maintenance of the roads, because that is the main source through which income can be earned.

“But our leaders never visited their areas since they were voted into power; therefore we see no reason why we should waste our time voting people in there.

“It would not make any difference to our lives whether we go to the polls or not,” Mr Garimane said.
