PRIME Minister Dr Derek Sikua last week presented the Solomon Islands medal to wife of late Anil Kumar Malhotra, Parvaish Kumari in Brussels, Belgium.

This was in recognition of her husband’s committed and dedicated work with Solomon Islands embassy in Brussels.

Witnessing the presentation were Solomon Islands delegations that attended the third enhanced political dialogue with European Union and Malhotra's son Sachin.

Her only daughter who lives in London, England, could not attend but delivered her wishes through a phone call played out during the presentation.

Mr Malhotra was first engaged as a chauffeur and office assistant for the Solomon Islands Mission in Brussels in 1999.

He continued to serve in such capacity until the time of his death on Monday 11, January this year.

In an emotional get-together, Ms Malhotra said: "It is an honor to receive the medal from your country for my beloved husband, who passed away so unexpectedly."

"Anil always talked highly about the great relationship he had with you. He felt treated by all of you as close friend," she said.

"This medal shows once more the caring an appreciation of my husband.

"I appreciate what all of you have done for me and my family," she said.

Mr Malhotra was a very committed and dedicated member of staff who ensured general administrative and logistic support.

In his work he dealt with the Mission’s local service providers and suppliers, and in particular, helping with arrangements to ensure local dignitaries who visited Brussels were well looked after.

The late Anil Malhotra endured and shared the good and difficult times faced by the Solomon Islands Mission in Brussels from 1999 to 2010.

In recognition of Mr Anil Malhotra’s commitment and dedicated service to Solomon Islands, he was awarded a Solomon Islands Medal (SIM) in 2007.

Solomon Islands dignitaries, including Government Ministers and senior civil servants who have visited Brussels on official tours will have come across the late Malhotra, and in making their acquaintances recognise his friendliness and efficiency in going about his work.
