Police probe traffic collisions

THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force are currently investigating a number of traffic incidents that have occurred over the last few days.

RSIPF Traffic officers with the support of Forensics officers are investigating a suspected fatal hit and run incident that occurred a short distance away from the eastern exit gate of the National Referral Hospital compound on 15 March. 

The incident is believed to have occurred at around 11.23pm.

A person currently interviewed by Traffic Police officers in connection with this incident is assisting with the investigation.

In another incident, the RSIPF Traffic Centre are also investigating a collision that involved a RAMSI vehicle at the intersection outside the Westpac Bank at Point Cruz on Monday, 15 March at approximately 9am.

In accordance with RAMSI internal policy and procedures, this incident has also been reported to the RAMSI Commander and a separate internal investigation into the incident will be conducted.

In a separate incident, Traffic Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision of two police vehicles at point Cruz yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30am on the Mendana Avenue during which three officers in one of the vehicles sustained injuries. They were treated the National Referral Hospital before they were released.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to come forward.

Girl survived accident

A 15-year-old girl luckily escaped serious injuries a motor accident when she was hit by a public bus at Ranadi Kukum highway yesterday morning.

The girl was trying to get to the seashore and she attempted run across the east and west bound lanes. 

She ran across the west bound lane and got to the other lane when a public bus travelling east hit her and threw her off the road.

She was immediately taken to the National Referral Hospital and treated for minor injuries and later discharged.

Police have spoken to witnesses and an enquiry has been launched in relation to the motor accident.
