A 40-YEAR-OLD father has been remanded in custody yesterday for allegedly having sex with his 14-year-old daughter in Isabel Province last year.
The father, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his alleged victim, is charged with one count of incest.
It was alleged that on December 31 last year between 7pm and 8pm at a village in Hograno District, the girl was asleep alone in her bedroom when she felt someone trying to take off her trousers.
This was after she took her five-year-old sister who was sleeping with her to their parents’ room as her little sister wants to sleep there.
Police alleged the girl woke up and saw her father near her bed and told him she was afraid.
But police alleged the father threatened his daughter and told her he would kill her if she refuses.
Police alleged the girl was too frightened, she decided to lie down quietly and her father had sex with her.
Police said the father then warned his daughter not to tell anyone about what happened and told her he was only giving her a blessing.
The girl cried after that incident.
The matter was later reported to police and the father arrested and brought to Honiara.
The prosecution yesterday applied for a 14-day remand on grounds of absconding, seriousness of the allegations and that the alleged victim is the accused’s biological daughter.
Police prosecutor Gibson Idu also told the court medical report obtained by doctors in Buala confirmed that there was evidence of penetration.
The defence made no objection to the remand application but said they want disclosures provided to him.
Magistrate Jeremy Fasi said he will make the orders for the disclosures on the next court appearance.
The matter was then adjourned to March 30.
