THE cases of the former Western provincial leaders were further adjourned awaiting the outcome of the application of permanent stay of proceedings to be heard at the High Court.

Former premier Clement Base, his adviser Joseph Douglas and former finance minister Alfred Kaehuna are facing one count each of official corruption.

Base is also facing 34 counts of conversion and false pretences and two counts of demanding property with menaces while Douglas is facing nine counts of conversion.

The court was told on Monday the application for permanent stay in the High Court is yet to be heard.

Documents have already been submitted to the parties but the court is yet to decide when the matter will be sorted out.

Another trial date will be located if the application at the High Court was not successful.

Principal Magistrate Stephen Wilson vacated the trial date fixed for April 6 to 13 and adjourned the matter to April 26.

After no explanations were given for Kaehuna and his lawyer’s absence in court on Monday, the court issued a warrant of arrest for him.

Private Lawyer Philip Tegavota is representing Base, Maelyn Bird of Crystal Lawyers represents Kaehuna while Wilson Rano from Rano & Company appeared for Douglas.
